PhoenixCare Herbal Stories

Four Humble Spirits

Poria, lotus seed, fox nut and Chinese yam — four foods that are also medicines. Together they strengthen digestion, dry dampness and settle the stomach, which is how the soup earned the name “Four Spirits.”

Si Shen Tang grew up in home kitchens and night markets, simmered with tripe or ribs. It never overpowers; it simply helps the body digest and transform again, so heaviness lifts and energy slowly returns.

Nourishment isn’t about adding more — it’s about helping the body receive what it is given.
