Plump, ruby-red goji berries — one of the most beloved food-herbs in the Chinese kitchen. Sweet and mild, they go into tea, congee and soup, or straight into your hand as a snack.

Valued for centuries as a gentle daily tonic: nourishing rather than forceful, and best enjoyed consistently.

PhoenixCare Herbal Stories

The Brightening Berry

Goji is the ripe fruit of the Lycium shrub — glossy red, sweet and mild — long regarded as a food for nourishing essence and blood and keeping the eyes bright.

Chinese households add a few berries to tea, porridge and soup, trusting slow, steady nourishment over dramatic effects.

In TCM, goji enters the Liver and Kidney channels. The Liver is said to “open into the eyes,” so nourishing the Liver nourishes sight.

Paired acupoint: Taichong (LR3), the source point of the Liver channel.

True brightness comes from being well nourished — body and spirit restored after long days.
